We are excited to join forces with Kicking Cancer in Heels (an online support group for women with cancer) to create a collection of gifts for women in treatment. 30% of the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. You can shop the entire collection here.
Here are some of my favorites:
1. F*CK Cancer clutch in Crushed Black Velvet - The velvet feels so nice and this bag is perfect for filling up with all the comfort things for going to treatment (a lip balm, hand lotion, some cozy socks).
2. BADASS Clutch
Anyone going through treatment is completely badass. Acknowledge their courage with the pink velvet clutch. Shop here.
3. Midi Everything Tote - Fierce. Hope. Courage
Our Tote Bag is the perfect size for going for treatments. It's lightweight and has an outside pocket. We picked three words as touch points. Shop here.
On a personal note:
I've spent the good part of the last three years in and out of Sloan Kettering with my mom. It's been a journey - from the good scans to those that just make you weep. I've witnessed my mom's battle and her desire not to be defined by it. At 90, she always wants to get back to her computer and work on her latest manuscript. So when I say badass -- she's the person that comes to mind.
Tips to Share:
It's hard when you hear that someone you care for has cancer. What do you do? What do you say? Sadly -- I've had too much experience in this world. We all have. There's just too much cancer.
Instead of "how are you" -- try "what can I do for you right now?" Instead of "we should make plans" try "can I drive you to ....?"
Call. Being sick is not only scary, it can be very lonely. So even if they can't talk for long, checking in can be really comforting.
Check in on the caregivers. They need a hug too.
